Time To Prepare

Each Biohacking Test Is Only As Good As The Preparation Our Clients Perform

You’re excited, we’re excited for you. Let’s make sure you are adequately prepared for the testing. It’s important.

GETTING ALL THE TESTING? This is the right overview: What to do the DAY BEFORE your testing?

You need to be fasting at least 10 hours.

Hydrate with water the day/night before your evaluation for easy venipuncture (blood draw) on the morning of your evaluation.

ALL THE TESTING Overview: What to do on the DAY OF YOUR TESTING?

On your evaluation day, no stimulants such as caffeine or nicotine prior to testing.

On your evaluation day, no exercise before your testing.

You cannot have any water or anything else by/in your mouth for at least 1 hour prior to testing. No mouthwash within that time period as well.

Wear shorts and a tank top or non-loose fitting t-shirt. (If it’s cold outside, consider wearing sweat clothes you can wear over your shorts and t-shirt, for ease and comfort. Fast to remove for testing.)

You will need to have all metal jewelry and electrical devices (such as smart watches) removed to avoid interference with the Body Composition ready.

If possible, have a bowel movement too — as this could alter the body composition testing.

Empty your bladder just before your test.

It is optimal, though not required, that individuals be measured while not having their periods (menstrual cycle), as the water weight composition testing could be altered.

Blood/Serum Preparation Requirements:

You will need to be well hydrated with water for easy venipuncture (blood draw).

For Cardiometabolic labs that have cholesterol checked, you will need to be fasting for at least 10 hours.

After you finish all your testing, THEN you can have your coffee or tea.

For the Micronutrient and Telomere Analysis Testing, you are not required to be fasting.

DNA Based Testing Preparation Requirements:

You cannot have any water or anything else by/in your mouth for at least 1 hour prior to testing.

No mouthwash within that time period as well.

BODY COMPOSITION TESTING REQUIREMENTS

Age Range: 3–99 years (but we only see ages 18 years old and up in our clinic)

Height Range: 3 ft 1.4 in – 7 ft 2.6 in

Weight Range: 22–551 lbs

BODY COMPOSITION TESTING PRE TEST REQUIREMENTS
  • Do not exercise or eat 2 hours prior to your test.

  • Empty your bladder just before your test.

  • Wear shorts and a tank top or non-loose fitting t-shirt.

  • It is optimal, though not required, that individuals be measured while not having their periods.

BODY COMPOSITION TESTING NEAT FACTS

Takes only 45 seconds after patient data entry.

Quickly measure fat mass, muscle mass, and body water levels in less than a minute. No dunking. No pinching. No discomfort.

No estimations. Only impedance is used to determine your body composition results; no empirical estimations such as gender and age are used or required to predict your body composition.

BODY COMPOSITION TESTING - WHO CANNOT BE TESTED?

Anyone who has an implantable electronic device that can’t be turned off shouldn’t (or any other device using bioimpedance).

Also, if you are pregnant.

Anybody who falls outside the technical requirements listed towards the top of this page.

MEDICAL RESTING METABOLIC RATE STUDY PRE TEST REQUIREMENTS

It is desirable to measure a person’s metabolic rate at a true resting level. To ensure one is at rest, we recommend the following preparation:

  1. Avoid eating a meal 4 hours before the test.
  2. Avoid exercising on the day of testing.
  3. If possible, avoid the use of stimulants such as caffeine or nicotine (or others) prior to testing.
  4. During the test it will be important to get into a comfortable position and relax as much as possible.
  5. Keep lips sealed lightly around the mouthpiece. It is important that all the air breathed out is analyzed by the Indirect Calorimeter.
MEDICAL RESTING METABOLIC RATE STUDY FOLLOW UP TESTING

We advise when you schedule this testing, the initial and any followups, as close to the same time of day as possible to ensure metabolic stability, as our metabolic rates can fluctuate slightly through out the day, and to try to have a true comparison.

MEDICAL RESTING METABOLIC RATE STUDY - HOW IT WORKS

Directly measures the concentration of oxygen breathed out by each patient. The patient merely breathes through a simple mouthpiece as all the exhaled air is collected and analyzed. Because there is a direct correlation between oxygen consumed and calories burned (4.813 calories for every milliliter of oxygen consumed), an accurate measurement of oxygen consumption is an effective measurement of calorie consumption.

MEDICAL RESTING METABOLIC RATE STUDY - HYGIENE

Other Indirect Calorimeters require the patient to draw both their inhalation and exhalation through the measurement device located at the patient’s mouth.  The air they breathe in will pass through the same mechanism as countless patients before them.  Ours uses a one-way valve in the disposable mouthpiece.  This draws in fresh room air with each inspiratory breath and eliminates concerns about cross contamination.  The disposable is thrown away and there is no delay as there is no deep cleaning requirement of the equipment between each patient because of the ingenious engineering.

We have installed iWave air purifier technology, and utilize Merv 11 or 13 Hospital grade air filters in our building. This testing only occurs in one room, and is spaced out between appointments to allow air to safely have circulated with our iWave air purifier technology and air filters.
